OMT WebOrganization and Management Theory Division of the Academy of Management
Together with the new journal Innovation: Organization and Management (IOM), the Abu Dhabi School of Management (ADSM), and Imperial College Business School, OMT held a paper development workshop in Abu Dhabi on November 20. The workshop brought together more than 25 advanced scholars, early scholars, and doctoral students from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the USA whose research interests lie at the intersection of innovation and organization theory. Faculty members included Shaz Ansari, Santi Furnari, Markus Perkmann, and Nelson Phillips.
The papers were of different type – qualitative, quantitative, and theoretical work – and varied in terms of development stage. Four parallel groups profited from intensive discussions with their peers and advice from the faculty mentors. Next to individual feedback, the participants also received hands-on advice on the art of writing excellent papers. In his inspiring keynote, Nelson Phillips shared his experience on how to meet on the challenge of publishing in top journals.
The stimulating atmosphere of the workshop not only allowed for a substantial development of ones’ work and research skills. It also strengthened my conviction that the intersection of innovation and organization theory, which IOM centers, is a highly promising avenue for future research.
